| December 22, 2004 | | Photo: Gore Range from Gore Creek at Sunset |
Today's image is the Gore Range at sunset as seen from the Gore Creek. The challenge is to capture the detail of the river and capture the true color of the alpenglow on the mountains. To accomplish this, a two F-stop split neutral density filter was used to bring the exposure of the mountain down to that of the river. The second challenge was to have both the foreground and background in focus, this was accomplished by applying the hyperfocal concept. The image was captured on a Nikon D100 with a Nikkor 24-120 at the 31mm position. F/22 at 1.6 seconds, a tripod was used. In my photography workshops I teach photographers to solve various problems like this using hyperfocal distance, split neutral density, selection of depth of field/ shutter speeds.
