| February 05, 2005 | | Good Hope Bay just before sunrise. |
When John Wesley Powell presented his report on the Arid Lands he suggested that the United States Government secure ideal sites for water storage. Powell suggested that water be stored along side the river, rather than inline with it as most water storage reserviors are built. Lake Powell is named after John Wesley Powell, and is one of the largest reserviors on the planet, stretching from the bottom of Cataract Canyon on the northern end to the beginning of Marble Canyon, over 150 miles away on the southern end. About this photo: This is Good Hope Bay, in the northern section of Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area. This image was taken just before sunrise from the back of a boat. The camera was a Nikon Coolpix 5000. The file isn't tagged with camera data, but I do know it was a several second exposure shot to tiff format using a tripod, and only the native lens, no filters.
